Different forms of Yoga

If you have tried Yoga, you most likely have had a “Vinyasa” Class. But did you know there are many more styles of the practice? We offer almost all modalities of Yoga available today through our online classes each with its own benefits.

Vinyasa Yoga
Vinyasa yoga is a style of yoga that focuses on linking breath with movement. It is a dynamic and flowing practice that emphasizes smooth transitions between poses. Vinyasa classes typically involve a series of poses that are done in a continuous sequence, with an emphasis on coordinating movement with the breath. This style of yoga can help improve strength, flexibility, and focus, while also providing a cardiovascular workout.
Iyengar Yoga
Iyengar yoga is a style of yoga that focuses on alignment, precision, and detail in the practice of yoga poses (asanas). Developed by B.K.S. Iyengar, this form of yoga emphasizes the use of props such as blocks, straps, and blankets to help students achieve correct alignment in each pose. The practice of Iyengar yoga also includes the use of specific sequencing of poses to create a systematic approach to yoga practice. This style of yoga is known for its attention to detail and its focus on developing strength, flexibility, and balance.
Ashtanga Yoga
Ashtanga yoga is a traditional style of yoga that follows a specific sequence of poses, practiced in a flowing and dynamic manner. Developed by K. Pattabhi Jois, this style of yoga consists of six series of poses, with each series becoming more challenging as students progress. Ashtanga yoga is known for its focus on breath, movement, and drishti (gaze), as well as its emphasis on internal heat and purification through sweat. The practice of Ashtanga yoga is physically demanding and requires dedication and discipline, making it a popular choice for those seeking a strong and structured yoga practice.
Kundalini Yoga
Kundalini yoga is a spiritual and transformative style of yoga that focuses on awakening and harnessing the energy within the body, known as Kundalini energy. This practice involves a combination of physical postures, breathing exercises, chanting, meditation, and mantra repetition to help awaken this dormant energy and move it up through the chakras (energy centers) of the body. Kundalini yoga is often referred to as the "yoga of awareness" because it aims to increase consciousness and spiritual growth. This style of yoga is known for its dynamic and powerful practices, as well as its emphasis on personal development and self-discovery.
Yin Yoga
Yin yoga is a slow-paced, meditative style of yoga that focuses on stretching and targeting the connective tissues of the body, such as ligaments, tendons, and fascia. In Yin yoga, poses are held for longer periods of time, typically ranging from 1 to 5 minutes or more, to allow the practitioner to relax into the pose and target the deeper tissues of the body. This practice is designed to increase flexibility, release tension, and improve circulation in the joints and connective tissues. Yin yoga also incorporates mindfulness and breath awareness to help practitioners cultivate a sense of inner peace and relaxation. It is a gentle and restorative practice that complements more dynamic styles of yoga and can be beneficial for reducing stress and promoting relaxation.
Restorative yoga
Restorative yoga is a gentle and relaxing style of yoga that focuses on slowing down and allowing the body to rest, restore, and heal. In restorative yoga, props such as blankets, bolsters, blocks, and straps are used to support the body in passive poses that are held for an extended period of time, typically 5-10 minutes or more. This allows the body to relax deeply, release tension, and promote a sense of calm and well-being.

Restorative yoga is especially beneficial for reducing stress, anxiety, and fatigue, as well as improving flexibility and promoting deeper relaxation. It is a practice that can be accessible to all levels of practitioners, including beginners, and can be a helpful complement to more active styles of yoga or fitness routines. Restorative yoga is often used for recovery, relaxation, and self-care, making it a popular choice for those looking to unwind and recharge both body and mind.
